Patient Education

Treatment is only effective if the patient believes this will help him/her to overcome disease. Sometimes patients also have to convince their surrounding system, like family and/or friends.
However if the patient and their surrounding system are aware of the origins of a disease, the factors that contribute to stay ill and the mechanism of action of a suggested treatment, great profit might be gained. Treatment will be more effective, contributing factors may be eliminated and disease might be prevented. Using multimedia properly, meaning translating difficult medical content into understandable film images and 3D animation, in our opinion enhances treatment efficacy.

Using multimedia to support treatment is new. Therefore little specific scientific research has been performed until now. The only research we could find is of treatment efficacy enhancement by patient education through printed matter, like brochures. These results are promising.

We produced a film that can be used in the consulting room to educate patients about depression and treatment.
